Olympic Fashion:Jamaican Style

Ranked among the best by TIME Magazine, the Jamaican Olympic uniforms are a hit for Jamaican’s and the world. These designs by Cedella Marley are very fun, cool and suitable for the London climate. The uniform designs with the various Jamaican symbols embellished or embroidered on it, such as the coat of arms, are very ‘Haile Selassie meets Jamaica’ with a modern twist of styling of a range of black, green and gold palette. Bob Marley was very much an influence in the garment as some of his lyrics are incorporated into the designs. Of course the athletes have put their own styling on the clothes whether they wear their black and yellow printed scarves on their necks or as a headband or if they want to mix and match skirts/pants/leggings/jeans with their tops to suit their personal yet Jamaican style.

Apart from Cedella’s designs, the athletes have been brandishing other Jamaican inspired fashion such a Usain Bolt’s  ‘UB’ snap backs, the latest Jamaican coloured beats by dre headphones and Soul by Bolt.
