Watermelon Rind Juice

Watermelon Rind Juice

My journey to eating healthier has somewhat compelled me to be a little bit more resourceful. I do not throw away anything. The outer skin of most fruits are edible. Most individuals may peel an apple or bosc pear and discard the peel. Not me! Who would have thought that the watermelon rind would boast healthy benefits such as reducing high blood pressure? Throw it in a blender or juicer with a few limes or lemons (I'm a lemon over) and create a refreshing d'luscious drink.

Watermelon is an excellent source of citrulline, an amino acid which converts to arginine. It relaxes the blood vessels, increases blood flow, prevents stroke, circulatory problems, and maintains a healthy heart. Watermelon is a natural enhancer that treats erectile dysfunction, which has sparked claims of watermelon being a natural viagra without the side effects. A natural viagra! Wow! The watermelon rind contains higher levels of citrulline than the red flesh of the watermelon.

I buy watermelons each week. Matter of fact I buy plenty of fruits and vegetables each week. Not only do I use the watermelon to create refreshing drinks, I use the rind as well. Gone are the days when I used to purchase those bottled concentrated drinks from the supermarket. I prepare and bottle my own drinks each week for my family. My children can't seem to get enough. My 12 year old niece, Racqucala just visited from Massachusetts and I gave her samples of all the juices, which included watermelons, that I had prepared. I thought she would be a little apprehensive about tasting them, but she embraced the natural challenge and was really satisfied.

Now you don't need a fancy expensive juicer to drink healthier. A blender will do just fine. I use a blender and it's not even an expensive blender. Any blender will do. So the next time you purchase a watermelon, DON'T throw out the rinds!
