Asafa Powell Enters The Guinness Book of World Records

Former world 100-metre record holder Asafa Powell has been named the Guinness World Record holder for the most competitive 100-metre races completed in under 10 seconds, according to a press release from the athlete’s management.

Powell has registered 97 sub-10 runs over the course of his professional career between June 12, 2004, and September 1, 2016. The ‘Sub-10 King’ recorded his 97th sub-10 clocking with 9.94 seconds in an IAAF Diamond League race in Zurich last year. He’s poised to re-write the history books this week.

Powell held the record for the fastest 100 m sprint races on two occasions in 2005 with a 9.77 second time and in 2007 with a 9.74 second time before it broken by fellow Jamaican Olympian Usain Bolt.

Powell will seek his 98th sub-10 run at the IAAF Diamond League opener in Doha, Qatar on Friday, May 5, 2017.
