Jamaica’s Elaine Thompson won the women’s 100m at the Rome Diamond League with a season’s best of 10.87 seconds (0.8 m/s wind) on Thursday.

Thompson, Jamaica’s female rising star of sprinting, was slow out of the blocks from lane seven but powered her way through the field passing American English Gardner close to home. Gardener, who defeated Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce on Saturday, finished second in 10.92 seconds.

Barbara Pierre was third in 11.13 ahead of Ivet Lalova-Collio of Bulgaria with 11.16 seconds.
It was a very good win for Thompson as she maintained her lead atop the Diamond League standing with 20 points.
