Alia Atkinson Wins Silver in 100 Breaststroke at FINA World Cup in Germany

World Record holder Alia Atkinson finish second behind USA’s Katie Meili, who secured gold in the women’s 100 Short Course Meters Breaststroke in American Record time on Day 1 of the 2016 FINA/Airweave Swimming World Cup Series second leg in Berlin, Germany.

Meili won the race in 1:02.92, after chasing Atkinson. Atkinson wound up in 2nd with her 1:03.10. Olympic medalist Yuliya Efimova finished third in 1:03.17.

After registering one podium finish in her three events on the opening day of the second leg of the FINA/Airweave Swimming World Cup Series, Atkinson finished fourth in the Women’s 50m Butterfly. Jeanette Ottesen won the race in 25.09.

Alia Atkinson, who stood 2nd in the points total behind Hosszu after the Chartres stop, grabbed another gold with her 1st place finish in the 50 breaststroke, where she clocked a 29.00.
