Aisha Praught became the first Jamaican female to compete in an Olympic 3000m Steeplechase final. She finished 14th of 18 at the Rio Olympics.

Ruth Jebet of Bahrain won in the event 8:59.75 to take the gold medal. Hyvin Jepkemoi of Kenya won the silver medal in 9:07.12 and Emma Coburn of the United States won the bronze in 9:07.63. The Jamaican finished in a time of 9:34.77, just 3 seconds slower than her personal best of 9:31.75.
Praught had advanced to the final after a successful appeal.
