Alia Atkinson won 8 gold and 2 silver medals at the recently concluded 2018 FINA Swimming World Cup series, which included stops and meets in The Netherlands, Hungary, China, Japan, and, Singapore respectively.
During the first stop of the 2nd cluster, which takes place in Eindhoven, Netherlands September 28th-30th, Jamaican Alia Atkinson denied Russian Yuliya Efimova a clean sweep of the breaststroke events, winning the 50m sprint in 29.18. She won the silver medal in the women’s 100m breaststroke.
Alia lowered her previous 50 breaststroke World Record mark of 28.64 down to 28.56 en route to gold while competing in Budapest, Hungary, in October.

Atkinson had broken the 2009 mark of Jessica Hardy (28.80) at the Tokyo stop of the World Cup circuit in 2016, and with this swim now owns eight swims under 29 seconds, a feat only repeated 14 times in history.
In addition to owning eight of the 14 sub-29 swims in history, Atkinson also owns five of the all-time top-10.
While in Singapore (Nov 17), set a world-leading time of 1:02.74 100m Breaststroke to with gold, her fourth fastest time for the 100-meters in her career.
