Jhevaughn Matherson Breaks National Youth Record at 2016 Carifta Trials

Kingston College’s Jhevaughn Matherson broke Jamaica’s 100m Youth Record on the opening day of the two-day 2016 Carifta Trials held at the National Stadium March 5-6.

Matherson, running in the 18-and-under 100 metres final, won the race in a time of 10.25 seconds, a new National Youth record. The 17-year-old eased up at around 30 metres from the line. Second was Dejour Russell from Calabar High School, who finished in a time of 10.30 seconds.

The trials were held to select Jamaica’s track and field contingent for the 2016 Carifta Games to be hosted in George Town, Grenada, March 26-28

Last month, 18-year-old Nigel Ellis of St Elizabeth Technical High School’s (STETHS) recorded a sizzling 10.26 for 20-and-under at the Montego Sports Complex track  during the Digicel Grand Prix meet.
