Jamaica’s Damar Forbes achieved a season’s best of 8.23 metres to win the Men’s Long Jump at the Monaco Diamond League on Friday.
Forbes achieved the winning mark on his third attempt in a positive 1.5 metres per second headwind. The 25-year-old, two-time Olympian personal best is 8.25, which he achieved in 2013.

He won ahead of Fabrice Lapierre of Australia, 8.21m and China’s Gao Xinglong, 8:00m.
“It’s amazing to win a DL and especially here in Monaco after what happened last night,” Forbes said. “The rhythm is there, but I have to be patient and not be too quick or too fast on the board. That where the problem is. Every DL is to help me get to Rio. Rio is always on my mind.”
With the win, Forbes is now ranked sixth on the Diamond League table with 11 points. Lapierre (24 points), Rushwal Samaai (22 points) of South Africa and American Marquise Goodwin (20 points) occupy the top three spots.
