Elaine Thompson won GOLD in 10.71 to become the new Women’s 100m Olympic Champion. Tori Bowie (USA) 10. 83 chased and passed Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce to take the silver medal at the Rio Olympics.
Fraser-Pryce had to settle for the bronze after clocking 10.86 in the final. Marie-Josee Ta Lou of Ivory Coast finished fourth in 10.90, equalling her semi-final time.
“This is Elaine’s time to shine, I am happy for her. I’m happy that the gold stays in Jamaica,” Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce said after the highly anticipated race.
“It’s amazing. I feel great. I look up to Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce so much. Last year she told me I could do so much,” Elaine Thompson revealed.
