??Rusheen McDonald, who finished second in his heat with a season-best of 45.22, will line up in semi-final 2. Francis finished third in his heat in 45.88 behind winner Wayde Van Niekerk (45.26) of South Africa and Luguelin Santos (45.61) of Dominican Republic, the silver medalist from the London 2012 Olympics.

The first two athletes in the each heat will automatically advance to the 400m Final. The 3rd and 4th fastest finishers will qualify for the final as the fastest losers.
