Jamaica has won a total 54 medals over two days at the 2017 CARIFTA Games at Ergilio Hato Stadium in Willemstad, Curacao. The Jamaican junior athletics team is on their way to winning the championship title for 33 consecutive years after ending Sunday high on the medal table — the second day of the three-day championship.
The 54 medals include 23 gold, 19 silver, and 12 bronze. On the medal table, Team Jamaica is 41 medals clear of nearest rival Trinidad and Tobago with 13 (5 gold, 2 silver, and 6 bronze medals. On Sunday, Jamaica won 26 medals after winning 28 on the Opening Day of the CARIFTA Games, Saturday, April 15.
More than 600 athletes from more than 26 countries are competing at the 46th Flow CARIFTA Games, an athletics competition for U18 and U20 athletes, at the Ergilio Hato Stadium from 15-17 April.
The Jamaica boys won 24 medals which included 12 gold, six silver, and six bronze. The girls so far won 30 of the medal haul of the 54: 11 gold, 13 silver, and six bronze. Jamaica has won the games for 32 consecutive years and 40 times in total of the games’ 45-year history.
