Alia Atkinson honoured with Jamaica’s Order Of Distinction

Alia Atkinson has been awarded The Order Of Distinction in the rank of Commander for outstanding representation of Jamaica in the field of Swimming and being the First Black Woman to win a World Championship Title.

Atkinson has presented the award during the annual Ceremony of Investiture and Presentation of National Awards at King’s House this  Monday morning.

The Order of Distinction is a national order in the Jamaican honours system. It is the sixth in order of precedence of the Orders of Societies of Honour, which were instituted by an Act of Parliament in 1968. The motto of the Order is “Distinction Through Service”.

Atkinson was among Ms. Grace Beverly Jones who received The Order Of Jamaica for exceptional contribution in the field of Entertainment internationally. Beverly Grace Jones is a Jamaican singer and actress who was nominated for the Saturn Awards for Best Supporting Actress for her role ‘Conan the Destroyer’.
