The team, Roneisha McGregor to Anastasia Le-Roy to Tiffany James to Stephenie Ann McPherson, clocked a world-leading 3:23.64 to win the heat to qualify for the semifinals set for Sunday.
It was a strong run from McPherson, who started off with another individual finalist, Justyna Swiety-Ersetic, but the Pole couldn’t keep on her tail. Indeed, she was passed by Canada’s 400m hurdles finalist Sage Watson on the back straight, although she saved a late burst to earn second. Watson held on to claim third for her country.
