Jamaica will play against Costa Rica in two vital fourth round FIFA World Cup Qualifiers on Good Friday, March 25, at 7 pm inside the National Stadium in Jamaica and before traveling to San Jose, Costa Rica for the second meeting on March 29 in Costa Rica.
The Jamaica Football Federation (JFF) wishes to advise that it made efforts through FIFA to change of date based on the sacred nature of Good Friday to many Jamaicans. Jamaica sits third in Group B of the qualifiers with 3 points, while Costa Rica leads the group with 6 points followed by Panama on three and Haiti without a point. Defender Kemar Lawrence sees it as an opportunity to take the Group B lead.
“If we win, we go to the top,” Lawrence told CONCACAF.com “That’s really the aim, to knock them out of that seat, win at home and go to go their home and try to pull off an upset as well. Hopefully, we’ll get our full squad together.”
Internationally, the 23-year-old Lawrence is expected to wear a Jamaican jersey in the Copa America Centenario. In the Centenario, Jamaica will meet Group C rivals Venezuela (June 5; Chicago, Illinois), Mexico in a rematch of the 2015 CONCACAF Gold Cup final (June 9; Pasadena, California) and Uruguay (June 13; Santa Clara, California). The top two sides qualify for the quarterfinals.
