Jamaican-born Maurice Ashley started playing chess at the age of 14, and by 33, he became the first black person to achieve the title of Grandmaster<\/a>. And now \u2013 he is the first black person to be inducted into the U.S. Chess Hall of Fame on April 13, 2016.<\/p>\n

Ashley is now a famous personality as a commentator and organiser of the Millionaire Chess Open<\/a>, but his chess accomplishments are also very significant.<\/p>\n

Born in St. Andrew, Jamaica, Ashley became the first black Grandmaster in the world in 1999. His contributions to chess in New York and the United States cannot be overstated.<\/p>\n
