Thompson, the 2016 Olympic champion, wasn’t particularly sharp out of the blocks but showed the best pick up speed, edging ahead through the middle section and shutting it down as the line approached.

The third auto advancer from that one is Morolake Akinosun, an unflustered looking runner, who recorded a solid 11.23.
