Jamaica’s prime minister Andrew Holness has announced travel restrictions on the United Kingdom.
“Only citizens and certain exempted persons coming from the UK will be landed in Jamaica,” Holness announced late Friday evening. “Landed persons will be quarantined either in facility or home quarantined.”

The UK is listed among 8 other countries including China, Italy, South Korea, Singapore, Iran, Spain, France and Germany.

The Jamaican Government has been somewhat proactive in preparing for, respond to and prevent a potential outbreak following of COVID-19 following the island’s first two imported cases in Kingston from the UK confirmed this week and with the virus now officially classified as a global pandemic.
The first strategy of the government was to prevent /delay the covid-19 virus getting into Jamaica.

The World Health Organization has registered 125,048 cases of COVID-19 worldwide as of its last update on Thursday with 4,613 confirmed deaths. Given the increased risk of transmission, especially with the global cases reported, Jamaica’s prime minister Andrew Holness and Health Minister and Dr Christopher Tufton have addressed the nation on measures that are being reviewed for implementation.
